Montreal dream-lounge crooner Jeff Barbara's name might be wrought out of stylish neon at the beginning of “About Singers,” but those colours' usual connotations of vice and sin don't apply here. The song's electronics give it the warm light of a karaoke-level lighting system, but Barbara makes it burst with a grimy yacht-metal hook. Cue the fog machine. It's crazy: though huge solos were forged decades ago in the fire of a million joints, they sound comparatively wholesome today.
