FKA twigs and Arca are two artists on a very short list of up-and-coming musicians who I think should donate their brains to science. Collaborations like “Water Me” and their latest “Papi Pacify” are like a club full of grinding draculas. Inscrutable yet totally familiar R&B, with sounds that make a dusty part of our brains glow with recognition while the primate in us tries to assess if what we're hearing is a threat. Twigs' gliding falsetto is marked by sudden dives in pitch, like she's got a new singing gene exclusive to her vocal chords. Its compatibility with Arca's bizarrely soulful and gradually cinematic sound is something special; it nods at the mutual respect and genius of Aaliyah/Timbaland in its chemistry. As for the video, I don't know if you should watch this at work. But it's beautiful and passionate and 100000% sexier than “Wrecking Ball.” EP2 is out September 17th on Young Turks.
