Iceage debuted an even bleaker sound with the classically “Coalition,” a very promising sign for You’re Nothing, their new album out February 19th on Matador. But “Ecstasy” might be one of the dingiest, strangest things they’ve done, thanks to the smeared ABBA vibe on the verse, a bassy witch’s brew of disco and bad times that break you. This blurring is present in the video, a collection of moments that could be either horrifying or jubilant. Are those dogs playing or tearing each other apart? Is that a punk gig or a riot? On whose terms are those flowers being burnt? Who knows, but either way, they must end. And we’ll be left chasing our next hit of bliss, screaming “Pressure, pressure, oh god, no” when we eventually come down.
