Jhene Aiko‘s music has always had a flair for the dramatic, but her new video “Mirrors” transforms the tune from intriguingly brooding R&B into imitative DeadJournal fanfiction. I’m not feeling the gothy black-and-white shuttering, or the Black Swan styled evil doppelganger shit. Without all that, though, the song is still quite darkly pretty. Drums damply ripple on the surface of twinkling toyboxes and some effusive synth flourishes. I bet Drake’s writing a rap for it as we speak.
