[netdump] Watch an animated film co-created and scored by Neon Indian

Attention everyone who ever had an unhealthy attachment to their Sims characters: here’s something that might make you weep a little. Alan Palomo aka Neon Indian has collaborated with visual artist Johnny Woods for Outer Osmo Ghost Mode, a ten minute animated study of the lives of computer programs when their humans aren’t using them. Palomo both co-directed and scored the film. We follow Elda and Dell Banner, two online avatars of a real couple what exist in a program called Osmo, where users “create a ritual of activities that mirrors some idealized version of your life.” Things start weird, then get weirder, then get weirdly poignant, successfully humanizing the intuitive Second Life avatars, which is either a testament to the skill of the filmmakers or my degree of emotional connection with digital life. Both would be valid.
