The Flaming Lips – “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” (Feat. Erykah Badu) NSFW

The Flaming Lips deal in the art of the entire universe and the small details of the human body. Your breasts, fluids, wrinkled skin, penis, etc. They love every bit of you. They also love joining forces with other human bodies, and in their latest album Heady Fwends released on Record Store Day, the Lips collaborated with everyone (except for me, sad face) for a 70-minute long excursion into everything. Their track with Erykah Badu “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” has a video now and it’s appropriately body centric.

While Wayne flounces around with a long metallic cloth, Badu decides it’s time to take a bath. But, the real centerpiece of the video is Badu’s sister Nayrok Badu, who gets artfully naked, then covered in a different substance for each chorus. Slapping her skin in slow motion with glitter, then blood, and then semen (or maybe cake icing?), Nayrok has a lot of fun being naked. And sister Erykah is very proud of her for doing so! Hooray for celebrations of the body.

This is Ms. Badu’s comment on the taboo subjects of white/black sex and pornography. The First time ever we saw the white man’s face, he saw us naked, on the beaches of West Africa. He sexualized our nakedness and made us slaves. That’s why she uses red (blood) and white(semen). I think it is brilliant. She is a mind scientist, and she knows how these images will envelope our consciousness and help us back to right thinking. Kudos!

Itz wrong all the way. They have totally disrespected the art form by not explaning the nudity and the props. Then she gets her sister to join in the body double thats weak. If you are going to do it do it with integrity and with the ART FORM explained to the masses and specially the children who might see this for HISTORY anyway, but with so many FREAKS just FREAKING for just FREAKING becasue I got 19 million viewers or I can sell 19 million tickets or I can sell 19 million LPs. People want this right? If you drink from the cup of VANITY then you deserve to be taken away from the ART FORM because MUSIC is pure and without FREAKS!
