Irreverent electro group Hot Chip have been battling the great band food war for decades now, recently trouncing chillwave folk duo Cold Sandwich and seventeen-piece orchestral pop Mild Soup for the throne of best food band in the world (ugh, now I am hungry for hot chips). Last night, Hot Chip celebrated their victory, performing their first single “Night and Day” from their upcoming fifth studio album In Our Heads over at Jools Holland last night and looking very British (ugh, now I want a track suit).
Even though there are about three hundred people on stage, the catchy and kind of weird disparate elements of the song shine through, so you can hear every little warble and synth making its way through the hustle and bustle. This is also the first proper introduction of Sarah Jones on drums for Hot Chip’s live show, and gosh darn; she’s a pretty fantastic addition who has me swooning over her skills. Anyway, everybody go get some hot chips, y’all deserve it.
In Our Heads is out June 11 via Domino Records.
