Bonde Do Role – “Kilo” + track list for new album Tropicalbacanal

It’s been five years since we heard new music from baile-funk group Bonde Do Role, and boy, the world sure has changed. Tom from Myspace jokes were still relevant, Obama defeated Robot Obama for the Democratic nomination, MSN became self-aware, etc. What hasn’t changed, however, is our appreciation for edible bikinis and vamping supermodels, which the band’s video for “Kilo” has in, er, pounds.

The video is a send-up of the spaghetti westerns of Sergio Leone, except this could more accurately be described as a “citrus sex-cowboy comedy.” Cowboy Diplo enters a bar that’s decked out in fruit, and auditions three berry berry beautiful babes with some kind of mechanical bull-controlling/fruit cannon device, looking nonplussed as the women massage their bodies with fruits and opaque liquids. Bonde Do Role is the bar’s house band throughout all of this, though none of them seem to know how to play their instruments. But then again, it’s common knowledge that watermelon drums and banana guitars are some of the most difficult instruments to learn how to play, mainly because most people can’t stop eating them.
