Regina Spektor & Only Son – “Call Them Brothers”

Ladies and germs, tattoo May 29 on the small of your back (or, just try not to forget this date), because Regina Spektor is returning with her sixth studio album What We Saw From the Cheap Seats. The first taste is a newly recorded version of Spektor and Only Son’s “Them Brothers,” which actually won’t appear on the record, but you’ll be able to find on the deluxe edition that comes out on the same day.

“Call Them Brothers” sees Spektor’s elegant voice wrap around subtle violins, while degraded footage of Regina and Only Son’s Jack Dishel hanging out in the winter. Which brings me to my major revelation while watching this: the video looks really old—too old. That’s confusing to me, because I thought Regina was only around 30 and not, like 100? It’s a bit disconcerting, to say the least. Is Spektor in fact a sorceress or part of the Illuminati? It’s all speculation, and after hours of research I haven’t been able to unravel this conspiracy at all, so I’ll just go back to looking at dog videos now.

For someone that writes like that are a big Regina Spektor fan (suggesting tattoos on back), claiming this is the first taste of her work is WAY off base. See releases for: Small Town Moon (on SoundCloud end of April), a video for All the Rowboats (end of March), and Don’t Leave Me (Ne Me Quitte Pas), also end of March. So this is the FOURTH taste….They say don’t get tattoos of girls you only started dating. Well, don’t get tattoos of artists you just started pretending to like.
