Watch Earl Sweatshirt hanging out in Samoa

After returning from a yearlong absence in a youth retreat camp in Samoa, Earl Sweatshirt, or Thebe Kgositsile, has been pretty much nonstop business/rap/nice kid, being most recently featured in the New York Times for a pretty spectacular profile piece. We know what he’s doing now, what with all the contracts and rap albums planned, but you may still be wondering, “What happened in Samoa?” Thanks to the power of moving picture technology, which has allowed human beings to actually capture movement in time, you can watch footage of Thebe hanging out in Samoa.

Documenting the last few days of his time in Samoa, Thebe walks us through the small community, slides down a waterfall and ends with a pretty beautiful outing next to a bonfire. Although brief, it’s a rather nice indication of the community he was part of, and honestly, even though you don’t really “learn” anything through this, I just like the footage a lot/like seeing Sweatshirt outside of the domineering and sometimes tiring monster that is Odd Future.

Ahhh, Nice to see Earl relaxing. The world will only get tougher once he returns to music. Can’t wait to see his progression.
