Sometimes it’s only when you strip down a song to its bare essentials that you can find out how remarkable (or, in some cases, shitty) it truly is. The most obvious example is Nirvana and their unplugged sessions, with an even more recent case being with The National. Thankfully for Swedish duo Niki & The Dove, they too reside in the former category.
The effervescent Niki & The Dove charmed us with their first single “Tomorrow” from their upcoming Sub Pop and Mercury debut Instinct, but in a performance video for the Swedish PSL, they stripped down their electro pop hit, allowing Malin’s lilting voice to shimmer through the melancholic piano. It’s vulnerable, delicate, and beautiful. Goddamn, I am just a sucker for people baring their SOUL and HEART to the WORLD, okay?! GET OVER IT!
Instinct is out May 14 on Sub Pop and Mercury.
