Elliphant — “Tekkno Scene” (ft. Adam Kanyama)

Hey, who else was disappointed with /\/\/\Y/\? Because Elliphant’s “Tekkno Scene” sounds a lot like how we wish M.I.A.’s third album did. And this glitchy, clubby video makes Elliphant one of our new favorite freaky female MCs.

Like Nordic contemporaries the jj or iamwhoiamwhoami, Elliphant regards hip-hop as a passion, not a novelty. So the whistling synths aren’t the only bombs that are being dropped: Elliphant’s fearless rhymes and deceptively seasoned flow make her thick Swedish accent sound as authentically Caribbean as the sweaty, pulsing beat. And the blazingly hot verse from Swedish MC Adam Kanyama doesn’t hurt either. Regardless of his age (dude could be a high school junior or pushing thirty), he’s another exciting new talent that we’ll definitely be watching.
