Neko Charms Stanley Park Singing Ex

If you're staging a two-day festival that welcomes music fans from all over into the heart of Vancouver's gorgeous Stanley Park, you want Nardwuar The Human Serviette greeting them. It just makes sense. Arguably one of our country's most polarizing icons, Nardwuar is also Vancouver's number one ambassador — unabashedly proud of his hometown's...

Deerhoof Bring Dazzling Lights

Before we begin, here are three facts about my relationship with Deerhoof. 1. The first time I heard the band was when an uber-fan played Milk Man to a room full of hipsters and a) I was immediately ashamed I was the only person in the room who didn't know the band, which was compounded by the fact that b) I fell in love with them from the first...

Deerhoof

There's an episode of The Simpsons where Lisa's rival builds a diorama depicting "The Tell-Tale Heart." It's exacting in both scale and detail and puts Lisa's effort to shame. Deerhoof is that other kid. Building on the success of 2005's The Runners Four, the San Francisco noise-rock trio have crafted another record that'll leave your...

Bloc Party Give As Good As They Get

As a general rule, when a concert is moved from the hollow and impersonal Ricoh Coliseum, it's cause for celebration... unless of course that show has shifted to The Docks. That venue isn't only impersonal, it's far away from anything remotely resembling civilization. But, thanks to a complete sound system overhaul, The Docks now has at least one...

Song Of The Day: Asobi Seksu's "Trails" (Deerhoof Remix)

Deerhoof take Asobi Seksu's "Trails" and do the audio equivalent of putting it through a blender on this remix. The dreamy shoegaze single from the upcoming Fluorescence gets turned into the indie rock equivalent of "chopped and screwed" here, when additional drums, electronic elements and cymbals are added. This could even be a Deerhoof song; the...

Deerhoof — "Don't Get Born"

Deerhoof's video for the 49-second "Don't Get Born" from Offend Maggie is a pretty simple affair that contains a set of instructions for the listener. It's barely there, but still hilarious.

Deerhoof - "Jagged Fruit"

Deerhoof's creepy video for Offend Maggie's "Jagged Fruit" is full of night vision shots and old camcorder footage of ducks and dead mice. It's fitting, considering the track's ominous, minor key, dissonant and threatening guitar riff. As for the "Sorry, I ran out of ideas" message in the middle... well, that's Deerhoof...
