Glastonbury 2009 Diary: Part 3

Saturday, June 28, 2009 Pilton, England Glastonbury Festival Hospitality Campgrounds 10:30 a.m. I awake in a bath of warm sweat, again. It's even worse today than it was yesterday. I run outside my tent in my underwear only to see that two older ladies are sitting in front of me having some tea — how civilized. I want to ask them if they...

Bat For Lashes — Two Suns

Natasha Khan's music has always been ethereal and vaguely spooky, but she's stepped it up on her second album. Half the time when Khan, who's from Brighton, England, sings on Two Suns, she sounds like she's singing through a fog in a rain-soaked moor in the middle of Yorkshire. Khan's haunting voice has drawn comparisons to Kate Bush, and they'...

Bat For Lashes — Fur And Gold

Natasha Khan is a bit of a weirdo and her Bat For Lashes project puts a distinctly provincial slant on the female singer-songwriter milieu. She enjoys dressing up in strange costumes and using plenty of face paint. Yet, when it comes to her music, she tows the line as a less difficult Cat Power or a less coked-up Stevie Nicks. Sinead O'Connor is...

Bat For Lashes — "Sleep Alone"

The clip for "Sleep Alone," the second single from Bat For Lashes' Mercury Music Prize-nominated Two Suns, finds Natasha Khan trying (and failing) to sleep by herself before heading out in the street in a red Mackintosh. She then creates some kind of weird red pastiche made out of triangles which ends up being some kind of strange mobile...

Bat For Lashes — "Pearl's Dream"

Here's "Pearl's Dream," Bat For Lashes' latest video offering from Two Suns. It features Natasha Khan in a full spandex leotard with wings, hanging out in a creepy looking theatre with a crazy wolf, a smoke machine and a homemade solar system. She's all the while being watched by her alter-ego in a blonde wig. I hope those...

Josh Reichmann Covers Bat For Lashes

Josh Reichmann Oracle Band have covered Bat For Lashes' "Daniel" from her recently released Two Suns. The cover is a more acoustic take on the ethereal, reverb-drenched, electronic drums-heavy first single from Natasha Khan's latest album. You can download it here. You can also hear Josh Reichmann Oracle Band's cover of Deerhunter'...

Pumping: Bat For Lashes — Two Suns

Natasha Khan's gone much more ethereal and spooky on this one. She sounds a hell of a lot like Kate Bush at times, and while this record may require a second listen to fully appreciate it, it's still great, even if the songs may not be as catchy as some of the tunes on Fur And Gold.
