Nashville Pussy
August 8, 1998
Lee's Palace, Toronto, ON

Nashville Pussy kick ass.

Flagbearers for the rough-house world of white-trash rock, The Pussy showed what it actually means to ROCK on August 8 at Lee's Palace in Toronto.

Lee's was a stuffed sell-out for the event. And the crowd (equal part Queen St. hipster, teenage lesbian, record company weasel, biker and biker poseur and metalhead closet or otherwise) couldn't have been happier.

Corey and Ruyter were their standard spittin', rockin', making-out selves, and Blaine was the sweaty mess that you come to expect from a Pussy show.

The evening was separated into two distinct halves. The first, featured mostly a rapid-fire charge through the contents of the Let Them Eat Pussy album. Seeing how the album is about 14 minutes long, a few extended jams to flesh things out helped tremendously. "I'm The Man" was simply awesome, "First I Look At The Purse" was cheeky as usual and "Go Motherfucker Go" was simply crazy.

Though the crowd was going nuts, it was amusing to see that (considering the show wasn't all-ages and had a number of "older" fans) the moshing and slamming only lasted until the concert's half-way mark, at which point it became obvious everybody was getting a) tired or b) were concentrating on hoping Corey's breast would pop out her tank-top.

The second half was the cover playin' jam-out which featured the obligatory sloppy kisses between Corey and Ruyter (pretty tame compared to the tongue session when they played The Generator) and the now famous "fireball incident."

By the end of it all, anyone close to the stage was covered in beer, sweat, water and all sorts of other filth - and it was totally worth it.
