Live Reviews:
Chixdiggit! with Marilyn's Vitamins and Punchbuggy
November 13, 1998
The Horseshoe Tavern, Toronto, ON
OK, so Punchbuggy hit the stage on time (the bastards!), so they could have
jumped around naked covered in toothpaste, and I wouldn't know. Too bad
though.
Hometown punk boys Marilyn's Vitamins were strong as ever, drawing an
impressive crowd for their relatively low-key stature. Intelligent punk
rock that harkens back to Bad Religion and such. Always a pleasure.
There's one thing that anyone should know about Chixdiggit! before seeing
them live. While they are one of the few truly entertaining punk bands
around, with high spirit and endless energy, they can talk...and talk...and
talk. They even admit it! I don't know how many people, cities and drinks
we "Gave it up for" in the span of two hours.
Ooh yeah, when they're on a roll, Chixdiggit! also tend to play every song
they have ever known--take that as blessing or damnation as desired).
Bantering aside, Chixdiggit! found their groove at the Horseshoe that lucky
night. To have that much fun at a punk show should be illegal. But then
again, if they got arrested, the band could just talk their way out of it.
