On the Road Again
Live Review
Pansy Division
with Claudia's Cage
Lee's Palace, Toronto
Sept. 23, 1997
I'm still trying to decipher if I attended a gay men's comedy club
or a concert hall last night. Sure there was your typical music - guitars
and all. Oh! But wait, there was more....an amazing stage presence, minus
Claudia's Cage's set, who unfortunately didn't live up to their past
performances. That was alright though, because what Claudia's Cage lacked,
Pansy Division more than made up for. They kept me laughing continuously
throughout their set, with highly gay-influenced, sexually graphic lyrics.
The boys started out fully clothed, but within an hour they had gone down
to black sequined dresses, then down to their little tighty-whities. Pansy
Division's songs included references to groovy underwear, breaking the
sodomy law, our beautiful men with hockey hair in Manada (Canada), being
sluts, and picking up men in black leather jackets. This show was
definitely not for the sexually repressed homophobic individual.
