On the Road Again
Live Review
Moist
Massey Hall, Toronto
Nov. 21, 1997
Originally billed as a laid-back acoustic set of all their hits, the most
recent Moist show to pass through Toronto turned out to be one of the
band's most energetic performances to date. From the moment the lights went
down, the screams from the crowd rose up until finally, after only a few
tunes, lead singer David Usher kicked over his stool and began jumping
around despite his doctor's orders (He's still recovering from a slipped
disc in his back). Of course, the band played all their familiar favorites
- including a killer rendition of "Only In The Blood" a la "Billie Jean"
and a four-song encore including "Resurrection," "Gasoline" and "Push." In
addition, a couple of special guest appearances rounded out the evening:
one by opener Holly McNarland, who did a duet with David; and a second by
the members of I Mother Earth, who came on stage to wave hello. The show
ended with David humping the keyboard, the crowd rushing past security to
the stage, and plenty of roses being tossed around. Obviously the last
thing on anyone's mind was a laid back acoustic set.
