Blessure Grave — Judged By Twelve, Carried By Six

Blessure Grave's Judged By Twelve, Carried By Six
Of all the lo-fi rock bands and bedroom projects pouring out of San Diego these days, Blessure Grave are certainly one of the most unique and, quite frankly, weird.

A long, brooding harpsichord intro kicks off the band's debut album, before descending into a pit of freaky reverb-laden vocals riding overtop pounding drums and minimalist bass lines.

Like any band with goth and post-punk flourishes, Joy Division are a major reference point for Blessure Graves music. But where bands like Interpol copped the Mancunians' icy cool, this duo have cribbed the sense of inner turmoil and anxiety and injected them into some excellent tunes.

Their Learn To Love The Rope EP is tacked onto the end of the record. It boasts three equally great originals and a Shadow Ring cover.
