Bullfrog singer/guitarist Mark Robertson makes his solo debut on Deeper Shade Of Green. Sort of. Backed by Kid Koala and bassist Peter Santiago, Robertson’s effort sounds like a bunch of Bullfrog B-sides rather than a debut proper. Apart from the conspicuous absence of MC BluRum 13, there’s little to distinguish these six breezy acid jazz tunes from the work of Bullfrog. As before, Kid Koala’s turntable wizardry takes a rhythmic backseat to Robertson’s mellow tenor and wah-wah guitar. The end result is a pleasantly familiar, if somewhat unremarkable, listen.
