Brooklyn, N.Y.'s La Strada have captured a unique strand of elegance and beauty in their debut self-titled EP.
Between the soft, whimsical vocals and the subtle hints of complimentary violas, cellos and accordions, the group create a sense of camaraderie that binds them together both musically and sonically. From the poignant ambiance of opener "Orphans" to the haunting, hushed energy of closer "Starling," this EP proves this band are on their way to making an impact in the indie/folk scene.
Despite their city roots, the album introduces a collective sense of the countryside, possibly thanks to vocalist James Craft's world traveling. The once aspiring astronaut has managed to capture a certain cosmic quality in his vocals, a calmness and collectiveness that incorporates those sporadic moments of uncertainty.
This album is not only beautiful, but incredibly genuine and genius, creating great anticipation for their upcoming premiere full-length. Until then, I'm perfectly content listening to these six tracks again and again.
