Slipknot — Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)

Music Review
Slipknot - Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses

Most metal realists will be shocked and even disgusted by Slipknot’s latest evolution into harmonious headbanging territory. As if they couldn’t see the signs. As Slipknot proved on their first two albums and their various side-projects, the band are light-years beyond any other band when it comes to melodic metal.

With guidance from Rick Ruben, who helped the Chili Peppers and Slayer rediscover themselves, Slipknot haven’t sold or wussed out like their haters may say — they’re simply more Purity and less People=Shit. Songs like "Vermilion" and "Before I Forget," bring back that same feeling maggots felt when they first heard "Wait And Bleed."

Slipknot’s utter disregard for metal rules don’t always result in brilliance, like on the clunky boy band disaster, "The Nameless." Despite that and some other minor gaffes, Slipknot have returned to the top of the metal world.
