Feist — Let It Die

Music Review
Feist - Let It Die

It’s a pity this review is forced to rely on simple words. More telling would be a soft gasp, a small patch of gooseflesh, an ear keening for more — the enchantment of Feist’s music lies in its ethereal quality. Like a flirty, crinoline skirt with layer upon layer of fabric, this is an ultra-feminine record. Elegance breathes amid sparse vocal and acoustic guitar arrangements, organ swells, happy hand claps and finger snaps.

On Let It Die, Feist plays courageously, coyly with a sweet assortment of female voices. Soulful numbers "Gatekeeper" and "Mushaboom" recall the late great ladies of jazz. Her warm, sultry drawl is vulnerable and heart stopping in "Let It Die" and "Lonely Lonely." Swiftly, confidently a cool disco queen emerges to the shoulder-shimmying beats of "Inside And Out." "Secret Heart" is a captivating love song and as playful as "Tout Doucement," which is sung in French. The delicate "Now And Again" is a lullaby that inspires delightful dreams. You’ll never want to wake from this beguiling slumber.
