The Pixies — Wave Of Mutilation: Best Of The Pixies

Music Review
The Pixies - Wave Of Mutilation: Best Of The Pixies

With all of the collections of hits, B-sides and rarities that 4AD have cranked out over the years, this is truly the closest they’ve gotten to making a definitive collection that can act as a primer to Pixies newcomers, a reasonable representation to casual fans and a pleasing romp for hardcores.

The track selection on this album — which roughly follows an album by album chronology — is pretty much a no-brainer. All of the obvious hits are here (including seven tracks from the band’s most popular album Doolittle) plus a couple of B-sides ("Into The White" and a cover of Neil Young’s "Winterlong") and absolutely nothing else.

No filler, no lame album tracks, no rare outtakes that no one cares about. Just enough to remind you how truly brilliant this band was, making it exactly what a greatest hits album should be.
