This snappy little debut from the New Pornographers’ guitar/keys man enlists the help of some of his bandmates to round out the sound. The light and breezy pop music carries a bit of The Beach Boys on its back and, when the ensemble harmonies and tambourine chime in, a smiling smidge of Partridge Family. Feminine vocals and angelic harp lend an ethereal quality to the sweet "‘Til The Morning Comes." Certain songs — particularly "In Town," with its plaintive pedal steel, and the gentle boy-girl duet "Autumn Music" — inspire a certain sadness, but there’s a lot of joy in the catchy guitar hooks and peppy handclaps. Cue the applause and you may want to stand up. But should you get up, you may not be able to stop yourself from dancing.
