We Are The City — In A Quiet World

Music Review
We Are The City's In A Quiet World

We Are The City sound almost like Radiohead for a brief moment, a few seconds into opening track, "Intro." It's unfortunate that they quickly depart from — and never quite return to — that aesthetic because it's the best part of In A Quiet World.

On track two, "Feel Is A Word," the three-piece wander — almost accidentally it seems — into Band Of Horses territory. After that, they engage in some Born Ruffians-like bounciness and shouting, in combination with the orchestral grandeur of a Keane-ish, piano-heavy backbone.

There's nothing to hate here, but there's also nothing that'll grab you and force you to pay attention (though mid-album cuts "Astronomers" and "April" come close). You can tell, however, that We Are The City are far from being musical know-nothings.

There's potential here, and to be fair, they're barely out of high school. It'll be interesting to see where they go as they mature.
