Years in the making, Probot is the metal vision of Foo Fighter Dave Grohl. A huge old school headbanger, the collection sees Grohl team up with a number of his metal heroes from his formative musical years, offering up 12 tracks of metal (there's a bonus unlisted track) that spans the gamut from down-trodden doom to ‘80s-inspired thrash.
Each song features a different vocalist singing over Grohl's creations; what makes this project so special is the attention Grohl gives the music written for each distinctive vocalist. The song Lee Dorrian does ("Ice Cold Man") could be on any of Cathedral's albums. The Lemmy-sung "Shake Your Blood" is the best Motorhead song you've never heard before and "My Tortured Soul’' is the first new song to feature Trouble's Eric Wagner in nearly a decade.
The album flows amazingly and there's a Canadian connection to boot — Voivod's Snake sings the melodic "Dictatosaurus" while Away did the fantastic cover artwork. Cool.
