Eric San (a.k.a. Kid Koala) has never been one to rest on his laurels,
which in his case are incredible skills as a DJ. Instead, he tries to
mix things up with each new project, whether it's writing a turntable
soundtrack to a comic book — as he did with Nufonia Must Fall — or spending time in a funk band like Bullfrog.
Now, the Montreal native has enlisted the help of Seattle DJ Dynomite
D, along with Chris Ross and Myles Hackett, the former rhythm section
for Aussie rockers Wolfmother. The result is the kind of rock/hip-hop
fusion not seen since the heyday of nu-metal.
Thankfully, rather than being relegated to the background as most of
those band's DJs were, here San and D take centre stage while the
rhythm section acts as a pounding anchor.
Yes, we've heard this kind of thing before, but the fusion The Slew
create is normally perpetrated by DJs taking a brief tour through the
rock world, or rockers dipping their toes in the hip-hop pool. With
experts in both genres, The Slew make sure things get done right once
and for all.
