There were some great comebacks in music this year, but none were as satisfying as the return of Will Oldham's passion on the Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Matt Sweeney Superwolf LP. Whatever malaise was dragging Oldham down on the ho-hum Master And Everyone was gone by the riotous choruses of Superwolf opener "The Sea." Maybe Oldham was inspired after opening for Bjork on a nightly basis, or maybe Sweeney felt like he had to make up for his contribution to Billy Corgan's disastrous Zwan, but make no mistake: this was a soulful and haunting redemption for two incredibly talented musicians who briefly lost their way.
