Kid Sister — Ultraviolet
- Ultraviolet
- Fool's Gold/Downtown
- 3 / 5

Chi-town MC and blog sensation Kid Sister made waves two years ago with her Kanye West-assisted track "Pro Nails." The cut quickly got her lumped in with a wave of new Midwest artists like Cool Kids and Flosstradamus under the derisive umbrella term "hipster rap." Unfortunately, timing is everything and that sonic ship has sailed, leaving Kid Sister's debut somewhat dead on arrival.
It's not that the record isn't good. Kid Sister's mic skills are certainly worth the hype, as she shows on her duet with U.K. R&B sensation Estelle. It's just that its not great — or even that sonically ambitious — despite production credits from A-Trak, Spank Rock and Rusko.
Given all the delays, one would assume some serious tinkering would have gone down to keep Ultraviolet sounding fresh. Instead, it sounds and feels like a relic from 2007, and though that was only two years ago, it's a lifetime in pop music.
