In an era where Sigur Ros' deep-space whale music can crack the upper reaches of The Billboard 200, the possibility of Swedish quartet Dungen hitting it big doesn't seem far-fetched. Stadsvandringar, their second full-length (now being released for the first time in North America), is a kaleidoscopic headrush of vintage '60s psychedelic pop made all the more mind-altering due to the fact that it's sung entirely in Swedish. Coming on like some sort of Middle Earth Donovan, bandleader Gustav Ejstes' otherworldly pop is distinguished by his lilting tenor and ability to emote in spite of the language barrier: "Stock Och Sten" features a swaggering Soho '66 self-assuredness, while "Andra Sedan Sjon" boasts a sitar lick George Harrison would've killed for. Stoners rejoice: lava-lamp rock is, like, so back!
