Great Big Sea are one of the more prolific bands these days. The Hard And The Easy follows right on the heels of last year's Something Beautiful and Alan Doyle found some time in between to write music with Russell Crowe. This latest effort sees the band focus almost solely on their traditional roots, as opposed to the Celtic-pop that drives many of their more popular tunes.
Album opener "Come And I Will Sing You," has an intriguing world music feel with its tribal drumming and softly intoned lyrics. "The Mermaid" is pure comedy, while "French Shore" is a classic smooth Doyle yarn. Great Big Sea remain consistent, delivering another album of solid tunes.
