Canadian music has never been so universally unstoppable as it is right now. The Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene have drawn so much attention to the Canadian indie scene that it's impossible for great bands not to spring up.
Which brings us to Wolf Parade, who've been looming for almost three years, quietly releasing excellent independent EPs while opening for their Montreal friends. With Apologies To The Queen Mary, they're finally ready to step into the spotlight.
This record is a tour de force — 12 tracks and every one's worth listening to. Singers Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug have two distinctly different vocal styles, but they share a desperation that gives Wolf Parade's music a sense of urgency and lament. Krug's fantastic "I'll Believe Anything" showcases how great the band can be lyrically, while "This Heart's On Fire," the LP's closing track, is a message: Wolf Parade are bringing Canadian music to even greater heights.
