The years have been kind to Margo Timmins' tender timbre, so it's no surprise that her sorrowful pipes lead these acoustically inclined and intimate arrangements. Recorded last February and March at their Clubhouse studio in Toronto, Early 21st Century Blues sees the Junkies' cover their favourite songs by Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Richie Havens and U2. There are only two originals, both written by Michael Timmins, plus two traditional songs rearranged ("Two Soldiers" and "No More"). This disc shows that almost 20 years since their first release, Canada's folk cowboys are still wandering down that lonesome highway and producing some sad, yet emotive music.
