Rick White, Canada’s foremost psych-rock purveyor, sheds the protective cocoons of his past for this latest installment — there’s no Eric’s Trip or Elevator this or that or Unintended to hide behind — it’s all about White laying himself bare. The result, a dense, complex ode to the various women in his life, sounds something like what would happen if Simon And Garfunkel were taken hostage on a Tim Burton set and forced to minstrel their way to freedom. The prospect of peeking into White’s diary seems exciting at first, but you quickly realize the weight of commitment it takes to understand it requires more time than you’re willing to give.
