Brakes — Give Blood

Eamon Hamilton — normally British Sea Power's keyboardist/percussionist — takes centre stage with a few of his Brighton musician pals, resulting in the chaotic creativity of Brakes. With his "real band" waiting in the wings, Hamilton is freed up to go completely nuts on Give Blood and he's clearly having a ball.
His achy-breaky Frank Black voice snarls though punk attacks or affects a country croon for bent bluegrass ditties. The band destroy all genres equally, from faux-disco to killer covers of Johnny Cash and Jesus And Mary Chain, blasting through 16 tracks in 28 minutes. It sounds messy, and it is, but try not to like it.
