Cooper's last album, The Eyes Of Alice Cooper, showed the shock rocker attempting to update his musical vision with a contemporary approach to production and songwriting while also acknowledging his original garage rock roots. This time around, however, that path has changed and instead we get a rap with Xzibit tacked on the end of the record as an afterthought. The rest of the disc places Cooper squarely back in his most successful period, the '70s and '80s, with slick glam rock metal and songs about freaks and babies and rabies. While The Eyes Of Alice Cooper was a true eye opener, Dirty Diamonds shines back to another time with nowhere near the lustre.
