Sunny days and blue skies are not just for summer. San Francisco's Continental offer a warmth that could raise the temperature on even the coldest winter day. What Was Gained From What Was Lost is the perfect amalgamation of atmospheric guitars and soothing beats. The guitar work is beautifully crafted throughout the seven track album, offering the same kind of carelessness as a warm summer afternoon. As well, the transitioning between slower ambient songs to quicker paced melodies is organized so well that it goes unnoticed. "No Shorty" is reminiscent of lazy days whereas "Ghost War" brings up thoughts of thunderstorms. The band's best asset is their attention to detail and as a result they've created a cohesive and powerful disc.
