I've said it once and I'll say it again: P. Diddy is a far better producer than he is rapper. His drive and eye for nurturing talent will always be stronger than his lame-ass lobbing of rhymes. Which is why this remix record is good. Really good.
Diddy's got a lot of help from friends like Ghostface Killah, Busta Rhymes and Lil' Kim and he sure as hell needs it. Whereas Diddy's original version of "Bad Boy For Life" was so lightweight and accessible, the remix with Busta and M.O.P. is just some plain crazy shit! There's nothing quite like a raving Busta Rhymes. And the ode to Diddy's ex-J-Lo "I Need A Girl" wouldn't have gotten off the ground without Usher's plaintiff cries "I need a girl who's mine all mine/I need a girl in my life!" Other remixes of 112 and Ashanti aren't really that different from the original, but at least Faith Evans' "You Gets No Love" has a kicking loop sample of the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams."
Sweet!
