Fans of Grapes Of Wrath and Ginger may recognize the name Tom Hooper. The singer-songwriter now returns with a solo album that continues along the similar GOW vein — melodic, intelligent songs delivered in a somewhat understated manner. There's little that will arrest you on a first listen, but repeated explorations reveal the subtle strengths in Hooper's writing. Hooks rise out of nowhere and begin to take hold; thoughtful lyrics become more penetrating. Hooper also covers George Harrison's "Long, Long, Long," a song that, like this album, can be easily dismissed, but rewards the listener on return visits.
