It's amazing what constant touring, more recording time, more money and a veteran rock producer can do for a band. On The Trews' sophomore disc, the Niagara Falls foursome come out swinging with the runaway-train feel of "Fire Up Ahead" and the anthemic riffs of "Sunshine."
Den Of Thieves showcases The Trews' increased confidence and their willingness to explore more than just bar rock. There are strong threads of bluesy soul and Southern rock happening in "Poor Ol' Brokenhearted Me" and the horn-infused "Cry," while the throat-shredding power of singer Colin MacDonald's pipes on "I Can't Say" and "Ana & Mia" is impressive.
Even in the quieter moments, The Trews keep it strong and powerful. Musically, they've grown and, fortunately, they're growing together instead of apart.
