The soundtrack to the movie that's based on the children's book Where The Wild Things Are offers far more than just musical window dressing designed to accompany Spike Jonze's cinematic eye candy.
Credited to Karen O And The Kids, the film's soundtrack could easily stand on its own as a singular record of songs about love and youth. One look at the album's credit's should tell you why. Her Yeah Yeah Yeahs bandmates, Deerhunter's Brandon Cox and members of The Dead Weather, Liars and The Raconteurs are along for the ride.
There are a disproportionate number of slower tracks on the album, including a stellar cover of Daniel Johnston's "Worried Shoes," but they never threaten to bog the album down. Lead single "All Is Love" with its children's choir accompaniment is the clear standout, but this soundtrack is far more than just a collection of made-for-film songs.
