Everclear — Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 1 - Learning How to Smile
- Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 1 - Learning How to Smile
- Capitol/EMI
- 3.5 / 5

This is Everclear’s fourth album and shows that they’ve matured throughout the years, and they've put more creativity into this one. Art’s songwriting reveals more bits and pieces of his personal life and how it has changed for the better. The storytelling includes love ballads, cherished childhood memories, relationship dilemmas and the joys of having children.
There’s even a cover of Van Morrisson's "Brown Eyed Girl." For the most part the album is radio-friendly, with easy to follow melodies that you can’t help but sing along to if you’re a fan... or in some cases even if you’re not. It's also got that tendency to be stuck in your head the entire day. The guys haven’t seemed to wander too far off the known path, but they have added some windy turns and have discovered new creations.
