Not content to merely be in one of Canada's best new bands, Wolf Parade, Spencer Krug unveils his one-man sideshow, Sunset Rubdown. This keyboard opus is absolutely manic, which is good or bad depending on your feelings toward spaz rock. It's very lo-fi, giving it the feel of an old Guided By Voices record sung by David Bowie. "Hey You Handsome Vulture" is a haunting acoustic gem, while the Sunset Rubdown take on Wolf Parade's "I'll Believe Anything" maintains the intensity of the original while giving the song new dimensions. And though it gets entirely weird about halfway in, there's a mysterious energy in Krug that can't be ignored (and certainly won't be when WP's Apologies To The Queen Mary comes out in September).
