Although Roxy Music were an immediate success in their native England, for the most part they are regarded as either a one hit wonder or cult group here in North America. Younger music fans probably know them best from Scarlett Johansson's sultry karaoke take on this DVD's title track in Lost In Translation.
But the band's influence is undeniable. Beginning in 1972, they bridged the gap between glam and punk, and their calculated art rock and subsequent fashion magazine image helped pave the way for the image-obsessed '80s while inspiring everything from punk to disco.
The Story Of Roxy Music: More Than This tells the band's tale chronologically through archival footage and contemporary interviews with both band members and admirers.
Although clips from the group's 2006 reunion gig (which included founding member Brian Eno) in London, England are included here, the rather thin history will no doubt leave the converted unsatisfied. Yes, it's a welcome addition to the Roxy oeuvre, but More Than This is best enjoyed by noobs.
