With his ripped chest, long blond hair and punk growl, Iggy Pop's been rock 'n' roll's bad boy for almost 40 years. Now, thanks (or no thanks) to Jet and other fiery rock 'n' roll youngsters, the godfather of punk's popularity is on the rise again. His latest Best Of will only help him as it's his most comprehensive one yet.
Spanning his entire career — beginning with The Stooges — A Million In Prizes not only touches on Pop's hits, but makes sure to include a few lesser known tunes as well, giving fans an intimate and accurate look into this '70s icon's roller coaster ride of a career.
This chronological anthology starts strong, jamming 11 Stooges songs, including "Raw Power," "Gimme Danger" and "1969" into the comp's first quarter. There's also a ton of interesting Pop/David Bowie collaborations here such as "Nightclubbing" and "Funtime." Disc two is a little more varied as it delves into Pop's lackluster '80s output, but hearing Zombie Birdhouse's "Run Like A Villian" — complete with awful lyrics, bad synths and weak melody — is welcome, as it shows the rocker with all his blemishes. Only an extensive box set can beat this.
