Brian Eno has largely ignored his career as a pop musician in recent years, instead focusing on his roles as producer and ambient composer. With Another Day On Earth he attempts to return to that neglected area, which is exciting even if it's only partially successful. The album kicks off with "This," a gorgeous, rhythmic tune with Bowie-style vocals and ringing U2-ish guitar. Unfortunately, six tracks pass before encountering anything as strong. The bulk of the album finds Eno with one foot firmly planted in the ambient genre and, despite some success, his subtle, beautiful sounds are fairly incompatible with the constrictive format of vocal pop.
