If Darkest Hour hadn't found their metallic roots with their last effort, they've stepped in a sea of pewter quicksand on Undoing Ruin. Taking elements from every sub-genre for this shocking release, the band manage to incorporate Iron Maiden guitar interplay with Slayer's double-time aggression, the steely-eyed attack of black metal and the primal, in-your-face confidence of death metal.
Naturally, the band's inherent hardcore roots shine here and there, but for the most part this is all about mixing Gothenburg, Tampa and The Bay Area into one modernized shard of metal.
Passionate and direct, this is everything metal has been missing for the past five years.
