Now, this is more like it. Last year's Twilight soundtrack suffered because it sounded like a bunch of songs chosen at random and cobbled together in some kind of jumbled mess.

Things are a bit different on the soundtrack for New Moon because all of its songs (save the remix of Muse's "I Belong To You") were written specifically for the movie. This is a formula which definitely works, especially since the songs Paramore wrote for last year's soundtrack were among the film's most popular tunes.

Good or bad, the New Moon soundtrack, which includes material by Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver and St. Vincent, Death Cab For Cutie, Thom Yorke and Lykke Li, among others, will probably turn some Twilighters into indie rock fans and vice versa. And while none of these songs are as good as anything else the artists have written, if it at least makes kids curious about good music, then great. Too bad it's the Twilight franchise that had to do it, though.
