- Columbia/Sony BMG
- 4 / 5

Bob Dylan's hits shouldn't be on one disc — they should be compiled on at least three discs, each covering the different eras of his career. Oh wait, they already did that. So why does this 16-track collection exist? Chock it up to the release of the immensely successful documentary, No Direction Home, and the need to provide a new generation of interested Dylan fans with a starting point. From that perspective, this best of is surprisingly competent, moving in chronological order from the songwriting icon's acoustic folk years all the way to his Oscar Winning "Things Have Changed." Hardcore fans are better off going with the No Direction Home companion set, but if you're just trying to figure out which version of Dylan you might like best, you can't go wrong here.
